Season 3 premiere! Christy talks with Linda Bacon, a leading researcher in the field of weight science and the author of the groundbreaking anti-diet book Health at Every Size. In our season finale, Christy talks with psychologist Joy Jacobs about her history of anorexia and binge eating, the role of readiness and meal planning in her recovery, the science of eating disorders, and lots more!   

Dr. Joy Jacobs is a clinical psychologist, assistant clinical professor at UCSD School of Medicine, and published author who provides individual, family and group therapy for adults, adolescents, and children with eating disorders (including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder) and weight management concerns. She has trained in multiple treatment modalities, including Maudsley family-based therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and interpersonal psychotherapy. Christy talks with Madelyn (Maddy) Moon, a health coach and fellow podcaster who had a past life as a fitness model. Maddy shares her story of how fitness and bodybuilding competitions led her into disordered eating, and how she was eventually able to develop a healthier relationship to food, exercise, and her body.

Jessie Oleson Moore, creator of the dessert blog Cake Spy, discusses her struggle with anorexia and how writing about food has helped set her on the road to recovery.

A writer, illustrator, and baker, Jessie was born and raised on the Jersey Shore. She honed her artistic skills at the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. After living in New York for many years, she ventured west to Seattle, where she worked at a refrigerator magnet company. She quit her magnetic job to found CakeSpy.com.

Since 2007, she has made an illustrious but modest living from the site, as well as through various illustration and writing projects. She has written two books, CakeSpy Presents Sweet Treats for a Sugar-Filled Life (2011) and The Secret Lives of Baked Goods: Sweet Stories & Recipes for America's Favorite Desserts (2013).

In this episode we talk with two guests who used yoga in their own recovery from eating disorders and are now working to help others heal. Nutrition therapist and yoga instructor Anastasia Nevin discusses her history with food and why she believes healing has to involve connecting to your body. Then, yoga instructor and author Sarahjoy Marsh shares her painful eating disorder history and how she first stumbled upon yoga.     

Anastasia Nevin, MS, RDN, RYT specializes in the relationship between body, food, and eating. She is the owner of Anastasia Health LLC. Anastasia works to incorporate mindfulness, movement and body awareness with food behaviors, guiding clients to learn how to appreciate their bodies. Anastasia graduated from Stanford University with honors in Psychology. She went on to complete her Masters in Nutrition Education at Columbia University, and since then has worked in both outpatient and eating disorder treatment program settings. Most recently she served as Lead Nutritionist and Yoga Teacher at Monte Nido's EDTNY (Eating Disorder Treatment of New York). Anastasia sees clients individually and runs therapeutic groups at Body Connection LLC, helping each come up with a plan for living their own life with mind, body and soul. Anastasia also teaches dynamic vinyasa flow classes around NYC and at her beloved home studio Laughing Lotus. She is also trained in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and Restorative Yoga, and uses more subtle therapeutic techniques to incorporate body-centered healing into her holistic approach. Sarahjoy Marsh, MA, E-RYT-500 yoga teacher and author, is a vibrant, compassionate catalyst for transformation to those who suffer. Health coach Isabel Foxen Duke discusses emotional eating, weight stigma, the Health At Every Size movement, her own recovery from eating disorders and drug addiction, and lots more!

Isabel Foxen Duke graduated from Tufts University with a BA in sociology (a discipline which has informed her coaching substantially), and received her certification in health coaching from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She spent several years of her young adult life studying various spiritual practices, including but not limited to Zen Meditation at Ryukoku University in Japan, and Transpersonal Psychology in Bali, Indonesia. She is also the editor of Mirror Mirror: Reflections on the Way We Look, an exploratory anthology of body-image-related prose.

Comedian Chrissie Mayr discusses family food habits, why she hated her body and dieted constantly in college, how she finally stopped obsessing about food and her weight, and more!

Chrissie performs at many NYC comedy clubs but her favorites are The Stand and Gotham Comedy Club. She hosts COMEDY at STONEWALL every month at the legendary Stonewall Inn. She recently wrote, produced, directed and acted in SquirrelCode, a web series parody of MTV’s hit show GirlCode. Chrissie is featured in the Eater.com web series “We Love Food.” TV Credits include The Wendy Williams Show, What Not To Wear and The Travel Channel. She appeared at the 2013 Laughing Skull Comedy Festival in Atlanta as well as the Cape Fear and Women In Comedy Festivals. She wrote and performed in her One-Woman Show “Hope” which enjoyed a 5-week run at the Magnet Theater during 2009-2010.
